Samsung is currently working to bring its latest camera technology to more users. Specifically, the company plans to introduce the “Horizontal Lock” feature to older Galaxy smartphones. This camera tool originally debuted with the Galaxy S26 series earlier this year.
A moderator on the official Samsung community forums recently confirmed this development. They explained that the team is preparing to support document scanning and Horizontal Super Steady features on a wider range of devices soon. Samsung will share the official update schedule through the Samsung Members app once they finalize the details.
Understanding the Horizontal Lock Tool
The Horizontal Lock option acts like a digital gimbal for your phone. It stabilizes video by locking the horizon, even if you rotate your device a full 360 degrees. Samsung heavily promoted this feature at its pre-release events to demonstrate how software can replace physical accessories.
Essentially, this tool keeps your footage perfectly level during fast movements. It joins other recent innovations that aim to replace physical add-ons. For instance, the new display glass and privacy screen technology already reduce the need for extra screen protectors or stick-on films.
Which Devices Will Get the Update?
While the news is exciting, not every old phone will receive the new update. Based on the recent One UI 8.5 rollout, Samsung seems to use 2024 flagships as a cutoff point. Therefore, owners of the Galaxy S24 and newer models are the most likely candidates to receive these AI-powered features.
Unfortunately, devices released before 2023, such as the Galaxy S23, might miss out on these specific tools. This limitation could be due to hardware requirements, as newer chips are often optimized for generative AI tasks. Samsung appears to be drawing a clear line between older devices and the new generation of AI-ready hardware.
