Fat loss coach Kev Heintz has cautioned that many commonly consumed “healthy foods” could actually be slowing down weight loss due to their high calorie content. Sharing insights on social media, he explained that foods often perceived as nutritious can still be calorie-dense and lead to weight gain if not consumed mindfully.
He pointed out that items like granola, acai bowls, heavily dressed salads, and trail mix may appear healthy but can contain a large number of calories. For instance, a cup of granola can have around 600 calories, while an acai bowl may reach up to 700 calories, making them less ideal for those trying to lose weight.
To tackle this, Heintz suggested simple and effective swaps. Replacing granola with oats can cut calorie intake significantly. Similarly, opting for Greek yoghurt with berries instead of an acai bowl offers a lighter and more protein-rich alternative. He also advised keeping salad dressings on the side to avoid excess calories and choosing lean protein snacks over calorie-heavy trail mix.
According to him, the key to effective weight loss lies in understanding calorie density rather than relying solely on a food’s “healthy” label. He stressed that foods rich in protein and lower in calories can help improve satiety and support fat loss goals more efficiently.
Heintz’s advice highlights that mindful eating and small dietary changes can make a significant difference, especially for those struggling with weight loss despite maintaining a clean diet.
