“I always thought I had no willpower,” she wrote in her Instagram post on May 8. “But really, it was my habits and mindset that needed to change.”
Here are the 8 small daily changes Tarn followed:
🥗 1. Use a smaller plate
Swapping out your large dinner plate for a smaller one tricks your brain into feeling full with less food. “We’re conditioned to finish what’s on our plate,” she explains.

💭 2. Remind yourself: You can have more later
Avoid the restrictive mindset. Telling yourself that more food is always available helps reduce the compulsion to overeat in the moment.
⏰ 3. No eating after 7 PM
Setting a cut-off time for meals reduces late-night snacking. “Closing the kitchen” helped Tarn avoid mindless eating after dinner.
🪥 4. Brush your teeth after dinner
A surprisingly effective trick. “Nobody wants to eat again after brushing,” Tarn says.
💧 5. Drink water before meals
Hunger is often confused with thirst. Starting a meal with water can naturally reduce your portion size.
🧠 6. Ask why you’re eating
Pause before eating. Are you emotionally hungry or truly hungry? Understanding your cravings helps build mindful eating habits.
🫶 7. Drop the guilt
Tarn encourages embracing occasional overeating without self-blame. “Everyone does it. Guilt only makes it worse.”
🥦 8. Bulk up meals with volume foods
Add more low-calorie, high-fiber foods (like veggies) to feel fuller without overeating calorie-dense meals.
Tarn’s approach is less about dieting and more about retraining the mind and body with consistent, achievable habits.
