A powerful explosion in a crowded market in Pakistan’s Lakki Marwat district killed at least nine people and injured several others
May 12, 2026: Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province witnessed another deadly terror attack on Tuesday after a powerful bomb blast ripped through a crowded market in Lakki Marwat district. According to local reports, at least nine people were killed and 23 others injured in the explosion, which occurred during peak business hours. Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as several victims remain in critical condition.
Police said the explosion was caused by a loader rickshaw allegedly packed with explosives. Among those killed were two traffic police personnel. Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 rushed to the scene soon after the blast and shifted the injured to Naurang Hospital for treatment. Security forces later cordoned off the area while bomb disposal teams and investigators began collecting forensic evidence. Local residents also joined rescue operations and donated blood for those injured in the attack.
The incident comes days after another deadly attack in Bannu district, where a car bomb targeting a police checkpoint killed 15 police personnel. Following that attack, Pakistan summoned the Afghan chargé d’affaires and blamed Afghan-based militants for orchestrating the violence. Islamabad claimed preliminary evidence pointed to extremist groups operating from Afghan territory and warned that it reserved the right to take “decisive countermeasures” against those responsible.
