Fact-checkers identified multiple AI-generated inconsistencies in the viral courtroom image as Imran Khan remains jailed
June 28, 2026: A viral photograph claiming to show former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan inside a courtroom has been debunked by fact-checkers, who said the image was created using artificial intelligence. The picture was widely shared by Khan’s supporters on social media, with many believing it to be a recent court appearance. However, experts pointed to visual inconsistencies, including distorted fingers and unnaturally rendered books and files on the judge’s desk, describing them as common signs of AI-generated content.
The viral image surfaced as Imran Khan continues to remain imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Khan has been in custody since August 5, 2023, and is serving a 14-year sentence in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was sentenced to seven years in the same case, and both have challenged their convictions before the Islamabad High Court, which is scheduled to hear their appeals on Monday.
Meanwhile, concerns over Khan’s health have persisted. He has reportedly been receiving treatment for right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), with his latest medical procedure conducted on June 15. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Khan’s family have repeatedly demanded that he be allowed treatment by his personal doctors and shifted to a hospital of his choice, claims that the Pakistani government has denied.
