India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced the temporary suspension of flights to six international destinations as part of a network optimization exercise. The airline said services to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Langkawi, Krabi and Siem Reap will remain suspended until September 30, 2026.
The suspension will come into effect from July 1 for Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Langkawi and Krabi, while services to Siem Reap will be paused from July 3. According to the airline, the decision has been taken in response to softer seasonal demand expected during the upcoming quarter, coupled with a challenging operating environment marked by rising costs and continued airspace restrictions.
IndiGo stated that the move is part of a broader strategy to align capacity with current market conditions while maintaining network reliability and operational efficiency. The airline emphasized that despite the temporary route adjustments, it continues to operate more than 1,800 international flights every week across its global network.
The carrier has confirmed that bookings for the affected destinations will reopen from October 1, subject to an improvement in market conditions. However, the airline also noted that it remains prepared to restore services earlier if demand strengthens and operating conditions become more favorable.
The decision reflects the broader challenges currently facing the aviation industry, where airlines are balancing fluctuating travel demand, elevated operational expenses, and ongoing geopolitical factors that continue to impact flight routes and costs. By temporarily reducing capacity on select routes, IndiGo aims to focus resources on stronger-performing sectors while preserving overall network stability.
Passengers with existing bookings on the affected routes are advised to stay in touch with the airline regarding schedule changes, refunds, or alternative travel arrangements. As travel patterns evolve over the coming months, IndiGo says it will continue to monitor demand and make further adjustments if necessary.
