IPL 2024: Sam Curran Slapped with 50% Fine for Code of Conduct Breach

Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain, Sam Curran, has incurred a significant 50% fine of his match fees for violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct.

Curran’s breach occurred during Punjab Kings’ disappointing performance against the Gujarat Titans, resulting in a narrow 3-wicket defeat for Punjab.

As per the IPL’s statement, “Sam Curran, the captain of Punjab Kings, has been fined 50% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s IPL 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 21.”

The statement specified that Curran committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He acknowledged the offence and accepted the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee, whose decision is deemed final for Level 1 breaches.

Sam Curran’s breach adds a layer of disappointment to Punjab Kings’ ongoing campaign in the IPL. Despite a promising start to the season, the team has struggled to maintain momentum and secure victories consistently.

In the game against the Gujarat Titans, Sai Kishore’s impressive four-wicket haul and another remarkable performance by Rahul Tewatia led the Gujarat Titans to victory over Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium. The defeat further dented Punjab Kings’ hopes of climbing up the points table and securing a spot in the playoffs.

Following the match, Punjab Kings finds themselves second from the bottom in the points table, accumulating only 4 points from 8 matches in the ongoing IPL season. The team’s inconsistent performances have raised concerns among fans and pundits alike, as they continue to search for a winning formula to turn their fortunes around.

Sam Curran’s fine serves as a reminder to players about the importance of upholding the integrity of the game and adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the IPL authorities. As the tournament progresses, teams will be looking to avoid disciplinary issues and focus on delivering strong performances on the field to secure their positions in the playoffs.
