Rajasthan BJP raises issue of 'crimes against women' in state ahead of Priyanka Gandhi rally

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India]: Hitting out at Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ahead of her public rally in Jhunjhunu, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajendra Rathore on Wednesday said that the Congress leader should speak up on crimes against women in Rajasthan.

The leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly said that as per the data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the poll-bound state was at the top for crime against women for three consecutive years.

“Priyanka Gandhi says ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’. According to NCRB data, Rajasthan was at the top for crime against women for three consecutive years. The ministers (here) accepted that women are not safe (in Rajasthan). I hope she says something on this,” Rathore said.

The Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to address a public rally, to be attended by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and senior party leaders in Jhunjhunu on Wednesday afternoon.

Reacting, to it, BJP leader Rathore said that the visit would fail to create any influence. “The Congress has lost public support and it is trying to win it back with the help of its leaders. But they will not succeed,” he said.

During the visit, Priyanka will also unveil a statue of former Union minister Sisram Ola in Ardawata.

CM Gehlot said that Priyanka will make big announcements for the homemakers of Rajasthan during her rally in Jhunjhunu.

Asked about the possible announcements, the AICC leader could make, Rathore said, “Now announcements won’t impact much as everyone has seen the announcements that Congress had made earlier in Rajasthan being discontinued.”

This would be the second visit of Priyanka Gandhi in Rajasthan, going to polls next month, in a week after the Congress leader addressed a gathering in Dausa.
With poll dates nearing in Rajasthan, both the BJP and Congress are slugging it out to form their government.

Rajasthan assembly polls will be held on November 25. The 200-member house will go to polls in single-phase. The counting of votes will take place on December 3, coinciding with the other four states: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram.
