CNG Price In Delhi: The ripple effects of the ongoing Iran conflict have hit the Indian capital’s fuel stations. Following a sharp rise in petrol and diesel rates, the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi was hiked by ₹2 per kg on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The revised rate in the national capital now stands at ₹79.09 per kg, up from the previous ₹77.09. This move follows a similar hike by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) in Mumbai earlier this week, as global energy markets grapple with the strategic blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The blockade, a direct consequence of the escalating West Asia crisis, has choked a vital artery for global oil and gas shipments, sending international crude and gas prices soaring. Industry experts suggest that the domestic price hike was inevitable as oil marketing companies struggle to absorb the surging costs of imports. With the global energy supply chain in disarray, a portion of the increased burden is now being passed directly to the common man.
Commuters and Transport Unions Feel the Heat
The hike is set to hit the pockets of millions of daily commuters and public transport operators. In cities like Delhi and Mumbai, where a vast majority of the public transport fleet including autorickshaws, taxis, and buses runs on CNG, the increased fuel cost is expected to trigger a chain reaction.
In Mumbai, where CNG has hit ₹84 per kg, autorickshaw unions have already begun pressing for a ₹1 hike in the base fare to offset the rising operational expenses.
The Inflationary Spiral: Petrol and Diesel Update
The energy crisis isn’t limited to gas. Petrol and diesel prices have also seen a significant jump. In Delhi, petrol is now retailing at ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel has climbed to ₹90.67. In financial hubs like Mumbai and Kolkata, petrol prices have breached the ₹106 and ₹108 marks, respectively. This simultaneous rise in all transport fuels is stoking fears of broader inflation. As logistics costs rise, the prices of essential commodities—which saw a hike in milk rates earlier this week—are likely to follow suit, further eroding the discretionary spending power of Indian households.
