Dev and Panghal Lead India's Paris 2024 Charge at Boxing Qualifiers

India’s boxing contingent for the second World Qualification Tournament of the Paris Olympic Games 2024 has been finalized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The nine-member squad includes notable boxers such as Amit Panghal (51kg), the gold medalist in the recent Strandja Memorial tournament, and Nishant Dev (71kg), the bronze medallist at the World Championships.

Panghal, currently the national champion, has been in exceptional form, while Nishant Dev showcased his prowess by reaching the final stage of the first Olympic qualifier held in Italy.

Joining them are other accomplished boxers including Sachin (57kg), Narender Berwal (+92kg), and Sanjeet Kumar (92kg), all national champions in their respective weight categories. Abhinash Jamwal (63.5kg) and Abhimanyu Loura (80kg) complete the squad aiming to secure Paris 2024 quotas.

In the women’s category, former youth world champions Ankushita Boro (60kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (66kg), the current national champion, will strive to clinch Olympic berths.

Notably, there are five new additions to the squad compared to the first Olympic qualifiers in Italy. Ankushita Boro, who competed in the 66kg category previously, will now vie in the 60kg category.

India has already secured four quotas for Paris 2024, thanks to outstanding performances by Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti (54kg), Parveen Hooda (57kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) at the Asian Games.

With a total of 51 Olympic quotas up for grabs in the 2nd World Qualification Tournament, India’s boxers are poised to give their all in the quest for Paris 2024 Olympic glory.
