Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee has revealed why he continues to gravitate toward independent and middle-of-the-road cinema despite receiving offers for big-budget commercial films. The actor shared that his passion lies in portraying challenging characters that allow him to completely transform and surprise audiences.

Speaking in a recent interview, Bajpayee explained that he finds immense satisfaction in roles that push him out of his comfort zone. According to the actor, the excitement of making viewers question whether they are really watching Manoj Bajpayee on screen is what drives him toward independent storytelling.
While acknowledging that mainstream commercial projects often come his way, Bajpayee admitted that the idea of joining a large-scale production can sometimes be tempting. He humorously described such projects as a “50-day picnic,” imagining a stress-free schedule with comfortable vanity vans, good food, and relatively lighter responsibilities compared to the demanding preparation required for many independent films.
However, the actor clarified that he would never compromise on effort, regardless of the scale of the project. He emphasized that hard work is deeply ingrained in his personality and that he remains committed to giving his best whenever the camera starts rolling.
Bajpayee also confessed that age and the emotional intensity of many of his recent projects have occasionally made him consider taking on a lighter commercial entertainer. The actor said he sometimes feels like accepting a mainstream film simply to enjoy the experience and have fun on set.
Although he has not made any firm decision, Bajpayee hinted that audiences could soon see him in a big-budget commercial venture. He noted that if viewers enjoy the film, it could become a success, and if not, they might still appreciate his attempt at trying something different.
Currently, Manoj Bajpayee is seen in Governor and continues to be celebrated for his diverse body of work across films and streaming platforms.
