A 70-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter and grandson in Bengaluru’s Kengeri

June 23, 2026: A 70-year-old woman, identified as Jayamma, was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter and grandson at an apartment in Bengaluru’s Kengeri area. Police said the incident took place on June 22 after the elderly woman objected to their alcohol consumption. The accused, Bhagyalakshmi (49) and her son Kushal (26), have been taken into custody. Investigators said Jayamma was allegedly assaulted with a cricket bat and a wooden stick inside the apartment.

According to police, officers reached the scene after receiving information and found Jayamma lying near the bathroom in the hall. A case was registered following a complaint by a resident of the apartment, Dhananjay. The accused have been booked under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities said the mother and son had allegedly been consuming alcohol and creating disturbances in the residential complex for several months.

Residents claimed frequent arguments and loud quarrels had been heard from the flat in recent days. Police said Kushal had earlier been sent to a rehabilitation centre due to concerns over his behaviour but had returned home a few weeks ago. Jayamma had recently come to stay with the family, and neighbours reported hearing heated arguments before the fatal incident. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the full sequence of events.
