The first Pradosh Vrat of Adhikmas, also known as Guru Pradosh Vrat, will be observed on May 28, 2026. Considered one of the most spiritually significant fasts dedicated to Lord Shiva, this rare occasion during Purushottam Maas is believed to help devotees reduce planetary doshas, overcome obstacles, and attract peace and prosperity.
Since the vrat falls on a Thursday this year, astrologers believe it carries added importance for reducing Moon-related stress, Saturn-related troubles, and other astrological imbalances. Adhikmas, regarded as a sacred extra lunar month in the Hindu calendar, is considered highly favourable for prayer, fasting, charity, and spiritual practices.
According to Hindu beliefs, worship performed during Adhikmas offers multiplied spiritual benefits. Devotees observe fasts, perform Shivling abhishek, and chant powerful mantras during Pradosh Kaal, the sacred evening period dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Several traditional remedies are believed to help reduce grah dosh during this vrat. Offering milk and Gangajal on the Shivling is considered beneficial for calming Chandra Dosh and promoting mental peace. Devotees also donate white items like rice, sugar, or clothes to strengthen positive lunar energies.
Offering black sesame seeds to Lord Shiva and lighting a mustard oil lamp beneath a Peepal tree are associated with reducing Shani Dosh and easing Saturn-related difficulties. Chanting the Hanuman Chalisa and reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times are also considered spiritually powerful remedies for protection, healing, and positivity.
Devotees traditionally offer 21 Bel Patra leaves to the Shivling while praying sincerely for health, prosperity, and fulfilment of wishes. During the vrat, people are advised to avoid negative thoughts, anger, gossip, and tamasic foods while maintaining purity and self-discipline.
The Trayodashi Tithi begins on May 28 at 7:56 am and ends on May 29 at 9:50 am. The vrat will be observed on May 28 following the sunrise rule in the Hindu calendar.
