Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has once again secured its title as the World’s Cleanest Airport for 2026, according to the latest rankings by air transport rating firm Skytrax. This achievement marks a decade of dominance in the Major Airport category for the Ota City hub, which serves as the primary gateway to the greater Tokyo area.
The prestigious ranking is based on comprehensive passenger surveys conducted between August 2025 and February 2026. While Haneda took the top spot for major hubs, New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido earned the first-place position for airports handling 30 million or fewer passengers annually.
A Global Leader in Passenger Experience
As the busiest airport in Japan and the third busiest globally, Haneda manages roughly 78 million passengers every year. Despite this massive volume of traffic, it continues to set the gold standard for hygiene and hospitality.

Beyond its cleanliness, Haneda is renowned for unique amenities that transform a typical travel layover into a cultural experience:
- Edo Ko-ji: Located in Terminal 3, this area recreates a traditional Edo-era street, featuring artisanal shops and authentic eateries serving handmade soba and yakitori.

- Luxury Stays: Travelers can access high-end hospitality at the Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu or the newer Villa Fontaine Grand, which opened in 2023.
- Rooftop Hot Springs: The Izumi Tenku no Yu Onsen offers a rare luxury—mineral-rich indoor and outdoor baths where visitors can soak while watching planes take off against the Tokyo skyline.
