“Modi govt made fun of public”: Mallikarjun Kharge takes dig at Centre

New Delhi [India]: Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday took a dig at the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging that the latter “made fun” of the public over the reported inflation in the country.

In a post on X, Kharge wrote, “The crying voice of the people, who have been burdened under the burden of BJP’s inflation in the last nine and a half years, … Every time on the issue of inflation, Modi government made fun of the public, teased like this – “Inflation is not visible”, “I don’t eat onions”, “It is better than other countries”.

“Why is onion expensive again? Now after defeating the BJP, the people of 5 states will tell its secret!” he added.

Meanwhile, the year 2023 is going to be an action-packed year provided five states including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram are going to polls in November.

These elections will also set the semi-final stage for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

Earlier this week, the Congress accused the Modi government of mismanaging the economy saying that RBI’s October 2023 bulletin shows “extremely concerning economic trends” including a 47-year low in the savings growth rate, “ballooning fiscal deficit” and slowing credit growth to the industrial sector.

In a statement on Wednesday, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the government of trying “to hide data and mislead the public” and said “vast majority of Indians are suffering”.

“The RBI Bulletin of October 2023 shows extremely concerning economic trends and demonstrates the Modi government’s continuing mismanagement of India’s economy.

In the September 2023 bulletin, a range of negative indicators were revealed, including a 47-year low in the savings growth rate, a stagnation of domestic credit to the private sector, and a flat labour-force participation rate. These trends either remain or have worsened,” Jairam Ramesh said.

Meanwhile, the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been asserting that inflation is impacting the whole world in the “post-covid” period.

Earlier, PM Modi said that the government has taken several steps in order to curb the price rise and reduce burden on the poor.
