Delhi High Court backs Centre’s preventive measures, citing concerns over alleged misuse of digital platforms during competitive examinations.

June 19, 2026: The Delhi High Court has upheld the Centre’s decision to continue a temporary restriction on messaging platform Telegram, citing concerns over its alleged misuse during competitive examinations, including NEET. The government informed the court that the platform was under scrutiny due to suspected involvement in the circulation of examination-related leaks and other activities currently under investigation.

According to official submissions, investigative agencies have identified several instances in which digital channels were allegedly used to share sensitive examination-related information. The Centre argued that maintaining the temporary restriction was necessary to protect the integrity of the examination process and prevent any disruption ahead of the NEET examination scheduled for June 21.

Accepting the government’s arguments, the High Court declined to interfere with the interim measure and allowed the restriction to remain in force until June 22, following the completion of the examination cycle. Telegram had challenged the order and sought relief from the court, but its plea was rejected at this stage. Officials described the ruling as support for preventive action aimed at ensuring fair conduct of examinations, while maintaining that the restriction remains temporary and limited in scope.
