Thousands gathered at Jantar Mantar as the CJP pressed ahead with its Parliament march
July 20, 2026: Thousands of protesters gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday despite heavy rain and extensive security arrangements as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) proceeded with its proposed ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities. Delhi Police sealed roads leading to Parliament, imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and closed several Metro stations, including Janpath, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth. While visuals circulating on social media appeared to show security personnel using force against protesters, Delhi Police denied reports of violence, stating that the demonstration was being handled professionally and appealed to the public not to believe rumours or misinformation.
Despite police refusing permission for the march towards Parliament, protesters continued arriving at Jantar Mantar throughout the morning. The CJP shared videos and photographs showing large crowds braving heavy rain and tight security, while party founder Abhijeet Dipke posted an image of the Constitution with the message, “Long live the Constitution.” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das urged supporters to remain peaceful, even if they were stopped from reaching the protest venue. However, according to an ABP News correspondent at the site, incidents of stone-pelting and a police lathi-charge were reported during the demonstration.
Meanwhile, three All India Students’ Association (AISA) activists — Neha, Manish and Ameen — ended their indefinite hunger strike after completing 23 days following an appeal from Opposition MPs and civil society representatives, who assured them their demands would be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after being shifted there by Delhi Police, continued his indefinite fast. He said he would not end his hunger strike unless the government accepted accountability over the alleged examination irregularities or political leaders assured that the issue would be taken up in Parliament.
