A 26-year-old woman was found dead at her matrimonial home in Maharashtra’s Ambernath
June 18, 2026: A 26-year-old woman was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Ambernath, Maharashtra, barely six weeks after her marriage, leading to the arrest of her husband and two family members. The deceased, Vishakha Tilkar, had married Dr. Nitin Tilkar on April 30 and was found dead on Tuesday. Following a complaint from her family, police registered a case of abetment of suicide and cruelty under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police arrested Dr. Nitin Tilkar, his mother Chhaya Tilkar, and his brother Ninad Tilkar. According to investigators, Vishakha was allegedly subjected to continuous harassment over demands for additional gold jewellery and cash. Officials also claimed that CCTV cameras had been installed inside and outside the house to closely monitor her movements. She was reportedly questioned about her daily activities and allegedly faced abuse if she interacted with neighbours.
Investigators said Vishakha had informed her mother about the harassment she was facing, but died before her parents could bring her back home. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over dowry-related abuse and domestic violence. Police are continuing their investigation while examining all allegations made by the victim’s family.
