Police have launched an investigation after a woman doctor was found dead at her residence in Jalandhar

June 11, 2026: A woman doctor was found dead at her residence in Punjab’s Jalandhar on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The deceased, identified as Dr Meenakshi, was discovered hanging inside her home in Kewal Vihar. Police officials said the house was locked from the inside when they reached the spot and legal procedures are currently underway. Authorities have also begun examining allegations raised by her family.

According to family members, Dr Meenakshi had been facing difficulties in her marriage to Dr Piyush, owner of National Eye Hospital in Jalandhar. Her mother alleged that he was involved in an extramarital relationship with a nurse working at the hospital and claimed that Meenakshi became aware of the alleged affair after reviewing CCTV footage. The family further alleged that she endured harassment and abuse during the marriage. These allegations have not been independently verified, and police have not yet commented on them.

The victim’s father also accused Dr Piyush of financial misconduct, alleging that a loan of ₹2.5 crore was taken in Meenakshi’s name without her knowledge. He claimed the funds were partly used for a vehicle purchase and partly invested in the hospital. Family members said Meenakshi had been living separately since July 2025 and was considering divorce while planning to buy a house independently. Police said Dr Piyush has not yet been questioned, and his phone remains switched off. The investigation is ongoing.
