Despite praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 years of NDA rule, TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha dismissed speculation about switching sides
June 11, 2026: Amid growing political uncertainty within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), party MP Shatrughan Sinha drew attention after congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the completion of 12 years in office and referring to him as a “friend and guide.” His remarks came at a time when the TMC is facing internal challenges following the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election defeat. However, Sinha clarified that his comments should not be viewed as a sign of any political realignment.
The Asansol MP strongly reiterated his commitment to Mamata Banerjee and the TMC, stating that he has no intention of changing sides. Sinha recalled how Banerjee encouraged him to contest from Asansol after his 2019 Lok Sabha defeat in Patna, helping him continue his parliamentary career. He credited both Banerjee and the people of West Bengal for his electoral victories and said he remains grateful for their support.
Rejecting reports linking him to any rebel faction within the party, Sinha said loyalty demanded that he stand with Mamata Banerjee during difficult times, just as she had supported him in the past. Calling Banerjee a “street fighter” with strong public connect, he emphasized that he would continue to remain with the Trinamool Congress and had no plans to join any other political camp.
