The Karnataka government has announced a half-day holiday for offices around Vidhana Soudha on June 3

June 2, 2026: The Karnataka government has declared a half-day holiday on June 3 for employees working at Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha, and the Multi-Storeyed Building in Bengaluru ahead of Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony. According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), the oath-taking ceremony will take place at 4:05 PM within the Karnataka Legislature premises. Authorities expect a large turnout of political leaders, dignitaries, party workers, and members of the public.

The government said the holiday has been declared to facilitate security arrangements, crowd management, and traffic regulation around the venue. Due to the anticipated congestion and heavy movement of vehicles near Vidhana Soudha, government offices in the surrounding area will remain closed during the afternoon. The order was issued in the name of the Governor of Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Shivakumar met senior Congress leaders in New Delhi, including Mallikarjun Kharge, to discuss cabinet formation and key organisational appointments. Senior leaders such as Siddaramaiah, KC Venugopal and others also participated in the consultations. Discussions are expected to determine ministerial positions, the Deputy Chief Minister’s post, and the broader structure of the new Karnataka government ahead of the swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.
