Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Seychelles as the Guest of Honour for its National Day celebrations
June 25, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Seychelles from June 27 to 29 to attend the island nation’s 50th National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. During the visit, India will hand over a fast patrol vessel to the Seychelles Coast Guard, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in maritime security. Modi is also scheduled to hold talks with President Patrick Herminie and address an extraordinary session of the Seychelles National Assembly, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so.
The patrol vessel transfer is part of India’s broader efforts to strengthen security cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. Over the years, India has supplied Seychelles with Dornier aircraft, patrol boats and defence assistance to help combat piracy, illegal fishing, drug trafficking and other maritime threats. Seychelles has also expressed its intention to become a full member of the Colombo Security Conclave, a regional maritime security grouping that includes India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Mauritius.
The visit will also focus on development and economic cooperation. Earlier this year, India announced a special assistance package worth $175 million for Seychelles, including a line of credit and grant support. Several projects under the Joint Vision SESEL initiative, covering renewable energy, digital governance, healthcare and maritime surveillance, are expected to be inaugurated during the visit. Modi will also interact with the Indian-origin community in Seychelles, which makes up a significant portion of the country’s population.
