Two more bodies were recovered overnight after twin under-construction buildings collapsed in Delhi’s Rohini
July 9, 2026: The death toll in the collapse of twin four-storey buildings in Delhi’s Rohini has risen to three after rescue teams recovered two more bodies during overnight operations. The deceased were identified as 62-year-old Ram Dua, the father of one of the building owners, and 24-year-old labourer Kafe alias Nurul. Another victim, Ram, 42, a two-wheeler mechanic, had earlier been declared dead at a hospital. One labourer, Mohammad Saddam, was rescued and is undergoing treatment.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal, the buildings collapsed on Wednesday afternoon while labourers were carrying out finishing and ceiling work. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, the power department and other civic agencies launched a coordinated operation. Police said the year-long construction was nearing completion when the upper portion of the buildings gave way.
Officials said the rescue operation is nearly complete, though debris removal continues. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse. Residents described the incident as resembling an earthquake, saying the buildings came crashing down within seconds, burying several vehicles parked nearby. Authorities estimate that around eight people were trapped under the debris when the structures collapsed.
