AAP MP Sanjay Singh questioned the police action that led to Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalisation
July 18, 2026: The political controversy surrounding Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalisation intensified after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh criticised the police action at Jantar Mantar. Singh alleged that Wangchuk was forcibly removed from the protest site without any effort to address his demands. He also claimed that a heavy police deployment was used to prevent supporters from continuing their protest movement.
Sanjay Singh questioned the government’s handling of the situation, alleging that Wangchuk’s supporters were stopped from carrying forward their campaign. He argued that the authorities had chosen to suppress the protest instead of engaging with the issues being raised by the activist and his supporters.
Officials, however, maintained that Wangchuk’s transfer to Safdarjung Hospital was carried out following medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court. After nearly 20 days of fasting, doctors had reportedly expressed concern over his deteriorating health and recommended immediate medical supervision. While opposition leaders continue to question the manner of the police action, authorities have said the decision was taken solely to safeguard Wangchuk’s health.
