Yathindra Siddaramaiah is set to join the new Karnataka cabinet under Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar
June 3, 2026: Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister K. Siddaramaiah, is set to be inducted into the new cabinet led by DK Shivakumar. However, speculation about him becoming Deputy Chief Minister has been ruled out. Yathindra had earlier stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi assured him of a place in the cabinet and said he would be satisfied with any portfolio assigned to him. Sources indicated that Siddaramaiah was keen on securing a politically significant department for his son.
DK Shivakumar will take oath as Karnataka Chief Minister at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru at 4 PM, along with 13 ministers, including Yathindra. Senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara is expected to take over as Deputy Chief Minister. The swearing-in marks the completion of the Congress party’s planned leadership transition, under which Shivakumar was to assume the chief ministership after Siddaramaiah completed half of his term.
Ahead of the ceremony, Shivakumar met veteran leaders including B. S. Yediyurappa and H. D. Deve Gowda to invite them personally and seek their blessings. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala and several Congress chief ministers are expected to attend the event. The transition follows Siddaramaiah’s resignation on May 28 in line with the party’s power-sharing arrangement.
