Following the easing of geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Delhi government has officially withdrawn its remote work arrangement and revised operating hours for state offices. The decision comes in the wake of a recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which initiated a 60-day window to formalize a comprehensive peace deal.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved the withdrawal of the hybrid work policy, which had previously granted employees Work-from-Home (WFH) options on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Key Administrative Revisions

  • Revised General Office Hours: Standard operating hours for Delhi government offices have been rescheduled to run from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
  • MCD Status: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is excluded from this specific shift and will continue operating under its existing schedule from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Normalizing Operations: The directive from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirms that internal operations, including official state meetings, will steadily transition back to in-person formats after months of shifting 50% of meetings online to curb fuel expenditure.

Context behind the Hybrid Policy

The temporary WFH guidelines were originally implemented in May 2026 following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for national fuel conservation. The broader conflict in West Asia and the strategic closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a maritime choke point handling nearly one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies—had severely threatened international energy flows and put immense pressure on India’s foreign exchange reserves.

With shipping lanes stabilizing and fuel supply uncertainties resolving post-ceasefire, municipal and state authorities are systematically lifting the structural conservation measures.
