A murder case in Telangana’s Karimnagar district has taken a shocking turn after police revealed that the accused allegedly learnt how to commit the crime by watching YouTube videos before carrying out the killing.

The Karimnagar police solved the murder within 24 hours and arrested 40-year-old Bangarapu Mahesh, who allegedly murdered 52-year-old agricultural labourer Pytari Mogili after planning the attack in advance. Mahesh has been sent to judicial remand.

Victim allegedly harassed woman linked to accused

According to the police, the victim, Pytari Mogili, had earlier been arrested and jailed in an attempted rape case filed by a married woman. After securing his release, he allegedly continued harassing the woman.

Investigators said Mogili also repeatedly humiliated Mahesh, who was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with the same woman. Police claimed the victim disclosed details of their relationship in neighbouring villages, creating tension between the two families and triggering frequent disputes.

Unable to tolerate the repeated humiliation and harassment, Mahesh allegedly decided to eliminate Mogili.

Accused watched YouTube videos to plan murder

Before executing the murder, Mahesh allegedly searched YouTube for videos explaining how to commit murder and prepare weapons, police said.

Investigators believe he carefully planned every step of the crime after studying online content.

Murder carried out after Moharram festival

Huzurabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Madhavi said the incident took place on Saturday night after Mogili attended the Peerila (Moharram) festival in Madipally village.

According to the police, Mogili was cycling home when Mahesh allegedly ambushed him near a culvert.

Waiting for the victim to approach, Mahesh allegedly attacked him from behind using an iron rod. Police said he repeatedly struck Mogili on the head until he was certain the victim had died.

After the attack, Mahesh allegedly returned home, changed his blood-stained clothes and fled the area.

Police recover weapon, phone and YouTube search history

Police registered a murder case immediately after receiving the complaint and launched an intensive investigation.

During questioning, Mahesh allegedly confessed to the crime.

Investigators recovered:

  • The iron rod allegedly used in the murder
  • Mahesh’s mobile phone containing his YouTube search history
  • The two-wheeler allegedly used during the crime
  • Blood-stained clothes worn during the attack

ACP Madhavi said police formed special investigation teams immediately after identifying the victim.

“We identified the victim soon after receiving the complaint and formed special teams to investigate the case. During the investigation, the accused confessed to the murder. We recovered the murder weapon, mobile phone, bike and clothes used during the crime,” she said.

Accused sent to judicial custody

Following the investigation, police arrested Mahesh and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police also said they are planning to open a rowdy sheet against the accused as part of further legal proceedings.
