Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray extended support to the Cockroach Janta Party protest
July 13, 2026: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday appealed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and support the ongoing protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Thackeray said he would personally visit the protest on July 20 and called upon political leaders and citizens across the country to stand with the movement demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities.
The Cockroach Janta Party has been holding an indefinite sit-in at Jantar Mantar since June 20, seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues including the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. The protest has received support from several opposition leaders, including AAP’s Sanjay Singh and Atishi, TMC MPs Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad, and CPI(M) leaders M.A. Baby, Brinda Karat and K.K. Shailaja. However, the Congress leadership has not officially joined the protest, although some individual party leaders have visited the site.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has launched a separate campaign titled “Chhatron Ki Goonj” (Echo of Students), focusing on challenges faced by students and reforms in the education system. In a post on X, Gandhi criticised the education system and called for strict action against exam paper leak networks while demanding accountability from the Union Education Ministry. His campaign runs parallel to the CJP movement as political debate over education reforms continues.
