Odisha is set to host Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships

The Sports and Youth Services Department of the Government of Odisha is prepared to host the Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships in 2023–24 at the Gymnastics Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, following the success of the Junior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship. The championship, which is organised by the Odisha Gymnastics Association and the Gymnastics Federation of India, is scheduled to take place in the state capital from January 2-4, 2024. National gymnasts Yogeshwar Singh, Rakesh Patra, Tapan Mohanty, Saif Tamboli, Gaurav Kumar, and Olympians Pranati Nayak and Dipa Karmakar will compete in the competition.

Head coach of the Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Centre Ashok Mishra stated prior to the competition, “The Junior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship was conducted smoothly and was a huge success.” We are thrilled to be the Senior National Championship’s host this year. Numerous national athletes, including Yogeshwar Singh, Dipa, Pranati Nayak, Rakesh, Tapan, Gaurav, and others, will compete. Given the high stakes, the competition is sure to be fascinating.” “It feels great to be here; the venue and apparatus are of Olympic standards,” said Bishweshwar Nandi, Dipa’s coach. It is Dipa’s first National Championship participation in nearly eight years.

It’s good because it will include participation from senior athletes such as Pranati Das, Pranati Nayak, Aruna Reddy, and others. I would like to see the junior athletes compete against these senior athletes, but I was unable to attend the Junior Nationals. I was pleased with this gymnastics centre and hope to see a strong delegation from it in the next two years for the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games.” The Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Center’s Pranati expressed her excitement about competing at the national championship.

She stated, “I will be representing Indian Railways and I am really excited about the fact that the Senior Gymnastics National Championship is going to be held at the same place where I train.” It will be a magnificent display of gymnastics with up to 300 competitors anticipated from across the nation.
