India batter Abhishek Sharma has urged the team to adapt quickly to local conditions after India suffered a shocking defeat against Ireland in the first T20I of the series. The loss marked Ireland’s first-ever win against India in T20 internationals, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Speaking after the match, Abhishek emphasized the importance of adjusting to pitch and weather conditions in overseas tours. He admitted that India’s inability to adapt quickly played a major role in the defeat, despite the team’s efforts to recover during the game.

“It’s just how quickly we adapt to the conditions, that really matters as a team. When you are playing back-to-back games, you have to step forward as a group and get used to the conditions. We were trying today, but unfortunately it didn’t happen,” Abhishek said during the post-match press conference.

Chasing a target of 183 on a pitch that offered assistance to pacers, India struggled to build partnerships and eventually collapsed to 148 all out, despite a quickfire 20-ball half-century from Abhishek Sharma. His aggressive knock stood out in an otherwise disappointing batting performance from the Indian lineup.

Ireland’s bowling attack capitalized on the conditions, with disciplined lines and clever variations that consistently troubled the Indian batters. Debutant pacer Jai Moondra (2/26) made an immediate impact, while Matt Hollard (3/28) played a key role in dismantling the middle order.

Indian wickets fell at regular intervals as the batting lineup failed to build momentum. Ishan Kishan fell attempting an aggressive shot to the leg side, while other batters struggled against Ireland’s tight bowling approach. The Irish fielders supported their bowlers well, taking sharp catches to maintain pressure throughout the innings.

The match also marked a difficult start for Shreyas Iyer, who was leading India in his first game as full-time T20I captain. His batting failure added to India’s struggles, as he was dismissed while attempting a mistimed flick that was comfortably caught in the deep.

With the series now at 1-0 in Ireland’s favor, India will look to regroup quickly and level the series in the second T20I, where conditions and execution will once again play a crucial role.
