Cristiano Ronaldo could be approaching the final chapter of his legendary international career, with his sister suggesting that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will likely be his last tournament for Portugal.

Speaking ahead of Portugal’s World Cup knockout match against Croatia, Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, said she believes the veteran forward is nearing the end of his journey with the national team.

“Enjoy it while it lasts. It’s ending soon… I strongly believe this is the farewell,” she reportedly said, while adding that his retirement would not come immediately after the Croatia match.

Historic Milestone at 41

Ronaldo continued to rewrite football history during Portugal’s victory over Croatia.

After seeing an earlier goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review, the 41-year-old converted a penalty to score his first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout-stage goal.

The strike also extended his remarkable international record to 146 goals in 232 appearances for Portugal.

Portugal Advances

Portugal went on to defeat Croatia 2-1, booking a place in the Round of 16 and keeping Ronaldo’s hopes of another deep World Cup run alive.

Although speculation about his retirement continues to grow, Ronaldo has not publicly announced any decision regarding his future with the Portuguese national team.

For now, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains focused on helping Portugal pursue World Cup glory before any official announcement about his international career.
