South African international Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, sending shockwaves through the country’s football fraternity. The talented midfielder, who recently represented Bafana Bafana at the FIFA World Cup 2026, was remembered as one of South Africa’s brightest young footballers.

South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, confirmed Adams’ death in a statement, expressing his condolences to the player’s family, teammates and supporters.

“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams, midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, at the age of 25.”

He added that South African football had lost one of its most promising talents and extended his sympathies to everyone affected by the tragedy.

Adams played an important role in South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, making three appearances during the tournament.

He started in the team’s opening 2-0 defeat to Mexico before featuring again in the 1-1 draw against Czechia. The midfielder later came off the bench in South Africa’s 1-0 victory over South Korea, helping his side secure their only win of the tournament.

However, he did not feature in Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 Round of 32 defeat to Canada, which ended the team’s World Cup journey.

Police Launch Investigation

The cause of Adams’ death has not been disclosed.

According to AFP, the Western Cape Police confirmed that officers have launched an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was discovered at a residence in Schotsche Kloof, a suburb in central Cape Town, on Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said:

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”

Authorities have not released any further details regarding the case.

Rising Star Of South African Football

Adams emerged through the youth ranks at Stellenbosch FC, becoming the club’s first academy graduate to earn a professional contract.

During his time with Stellenbosch, he made 139 appearances and played a key role in the club’s 2023 Carling Knockout triumph.

His impressive performances earned him a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025, where he continued to establish himself as one of South Africa’s top midfielders while becoming a regular member of the national team.

The football community continues to pay tribute to the 25-year-old, whose untimely death has left teammates, fans and the wider sporting world in mourning.
