Apple Inc. has received long-awaited approval from the Chinese government to introduce Apple Intelligence in China. The approval marks a significant milestone for the company as it looks to strengthen its position in one of the world’s most competitive smartphone markets.
The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) added Apple Intelligence to its latest list of approved generative artificial intelligence services on Wednesday. The approval comes alongside new AI offerings from major Chinese technology companies, including Huawei and Xiaomi.
Apple Intelligence Finally Cleared in China
Apple first introduced Apple Intelligence two years ago, bringing AI-powered features such as writing assistance, image generation, notification summaries and custom emoji creation to compatible devices.

However, these features were unavailable in China because they required regulatory approval under the country’s strict AI rules.
With the latest approval, Apple is now one step closer to launching its AI platform for Chinese users. The company has not yet announced an official rollout date.
Alibaba and Baidu Power Apple’s AI in China
To meet China’s regulatory requirements, Apple has partnered with Alibaba Group for its Apple Intelligence services.
Alibaba’s technology will help filter and manage large language model updates while ensuring compliance with Chinese government regulations.
Meanwhile, Baidu will provide search-related AI services for Apple Intelligence in China.
This setup differs from Apple’s international version, where Apple Intelligence relies on OpenAI and Google for several AI-powered features.
Following the announcement, Alibaba’s American depositary receipts (ADRs) rose by nearly 8%, while Baidu’s ADRs also recorded gains during trading.
Apple Upgrades AI With iOS 27
Apple has continued improving its AI platform since its initial launch.

The upcoming iOS 27 update introduces a new generation of Apple Foundation Models built on Google’s Gemini AI technology. The update also includes a redesigned Siri AI assistant with more advanced capabilities.
However, Apple has said that the rollout of the new Siri AI features in China will require additional discussions with Chinese regulators.
Approval Could Strengthen Apple’s Position in China
China remains one of Apple’s most important markets, but the company has faced intense competition from domestic smartphone brands, particularly Huawei.
The approval of Apple Intelligence could help Apple attract more users interested in artificial intelligence features, an area where Chinese smartphone makers have already gained an early advantage.
Industry analysts believe the launch could further support Apple’s recent recovery in China as the company competes more aggressively in the premium smartphone segment.
Tim Cook Continues to Strengthen China Ties
The approval also comes after Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Beijing earlier this year as part of a US business delegation led by President Donald Trump.
Although Cook is expected to hand over the role of CEO to John Ternus in September, he will continue serving as Apple’s Executive Chairman. In that position, he is expected to maintain the company’s long-standing relationships with policymakers and business leaders worldwide, including China.
With regulatory approval now secured, Apple is expected to begin rolling out Apple Intelligence in China in the coming weeks, although an official launch timeline has not yet been confirmed.
