Madhya Pradesh has achieved a major milestone in the aviation sector, with Khajuraho Airport emerging as the highest-ranked airport in the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) 2026 National Customer Satisfaction Index. Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal also secured an impressive third position, highlighting the state’s growing focus on delivering a superior passenger experience.
The annual AAI survey assessed airports across India based on passenger feedback, evaluating key parameters such as cleanliness, check-in efficiency, security procedures, terminal facilities, staff behaviour, waiting times, catering services, information systems and overall customer satisfaction.
Khajuraho Airport Sets a New Benchmark
Airport officials described the recognition as a significant achievement that reflects the consistent efforts made to improve passenger services and airport infrastructure.
Khajuraho Airport Director Santosh Singh said the top ranking is expected to strengthen tourism in the region by encouraging more domestic and international travellers to visit the historic destination. He credited the achievement to the dedication of airport staff, passenger trust and the airport’s continued focus on service excellence.
Located about three kilometres from Khajuraho town, the airport serves both Khajuraho and Chhatarpur districts. Since becoming operational in 1978, it has played a crucial role in connecting visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Khajuraho Group of Monuments, renowned for their exquisite temple architecture and intricate stone carvings.
Passenger-Friendly Facilities
Spread across nearly 590 acres, Khajuraho Airport offers modern facilities, including efficient check-in counters, security screening, baggage claim services, retail outlets and dining options. The terminal also showcases local artwork and sculptures, giving travellers a glimpse of the region’s rich cultural heritage upon arrival.
Boost for Tourism and Aviation
The strong performance of both Khajuraho Airport and Raja Bhoj Airport reflects Madhya Pradesh’s continued investment in tourism and aviation infrastructure. With two airports ranked among the country’s best for customer satisfaction, the state is strengthening its reputation as a welcoming destination for travellers while enhancing the overall airport experience.
