The Islamabad High Court dismissed contempt petitions filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi
June 29, 2026: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed contempt of court petitions filed by former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, after observing that the required powers of attorney had been properly signed. The division bench, led by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar, ruled that the petitions had become infructuous. The court also directed the defence to begin arguments in the couple’s appeals against their convictions in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case but granted a final two-week adjournment after defence lawyers sought additional time.
The court made it clear that no further delays would be allowed when the appeals resume. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced in January 2025 to 14 years and seven years in prison, respectively, in the National Accountability Bureau’s Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. Senior PTI leaders and legal counsel argued for more time due to a related matter pending before Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
In a separate proceeding, another bench of the Islamabad High Court removed registry objections to petitions challenging the couple’s alleged solitary confinement. The petitions, filed by Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and Bushra Bibi’s daughter Mubashara Khawar Maneka, claim the two have been denied access to family members, lawyers, and basic facilities. The court directed the petitions to be formally registered and said their maintainability would be decided during judicial proceedings. The hearing has been adjourned until Tuesday.
