Fresh Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon raise questions over ceasefire durability

April 24, 2026: The Israel Defense Forces on Friday said it carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting what it described as militant infrastructure linked to Hezbollah. According to the Israeli Air Force, the strikes focused on locations in Khirbet Salam and Tulin, which it alleged were being used to plan attacks against Israeli forces and territory.

The military said the operation was in response to rocket fire toward the Shlomi area, attributing the attack to Hezbollah. The development comes even as ceasefire efforts remain underway, highlighting ongoing volatility on the ground despite diplomatic messaging around de-escalation.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump had earlier stated that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend a ceasefire by three weeks following high-level discussions. US officials, including JD Vance, described the move as a significant step toward stability, though the latest strikes underscore the fragile nature of the truce.
