New Zealand fishing influencer Henry Gibbs has shared an encouraging health update after surviving a shark attack during a diving trip in Fiji earlier this month.

In his first Instagram post since the incident, Gibbs revealed that he is recovering well after undergoing multiple surgeries and expressed optimism about making a full recovery.

Shark Attack Happened During First Dive in Fiji

On July 24, Gibbs broke his silence by posting a series of five photos from his hospital bed, detailing the terrifying ordeal.

According to the influencer, the attack occurred during his first dive off the Fiji Islands. He described it as a “pretty nasty shark incident” and credited two of his friends with saving his life by pulling him out of the water immediately after the attack.

The pair rushed him for emergency medical treatment, where doctors began a series of procedures to treat his injuries.

Four Surgeries and Skin Graft

Gibbs revealed that he underwent four surgeries following the attack.

His injuries included severe damage to his right leg, which required a skin graft as part of his treatment.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Gibbs said doctors are optimistic about his recovery.

“It is looking like I will make a full recovery,” he shared, adding that he feels “hugely grateful” to be alive.

“No Hard Feelings” Toward the Shark

What surprised many was Gibbs’ perspective on the incident.

Rather than blaming the shark, he said he understood that he had entered the animal’s natural habitat while hunting the same prey.

According to Gibbs, the attack was simply a case of being “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

He added that he holds no resentment toward the shark and believes the experience offers valuable lessons for others.

Plans to Share Footage and Safety Lessons

Gibbs also revealed that he intends to release footage from the incident in the future.

He hopes the video will educate fellow divers and anglers about how to reduce the risk of similar encounters and explain the appropriate response if such an incident occurs.

By sharing his experience, he aims to improve awareness and help others stay safe while exploring marine environments.

Grateful for Support and a New Perspective on Life

The influencer thanked everyone who reached out to him following the attack, including supporters from both Fiji and New Zealand.

He said the overwhelming encouragement meant a great deal during his recovery.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Gibbs said surviving the attack has given him an even greater appreciation for life, adding that he feels incredibly fortunate to have escaped with the chance to make a full recovery.
