Pakistan ramps up mediation efforts as uncertainty persists over next round of US-Iran negotiations
April 24, 2026: In a renewed diplomatic push, Ishaq Dar held a conversation with Abbas Araghchi to discuss regional developments and the ongoing US-Iran ceasefire. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, both sides exchanged views on diplomatic efforts and emphasised the need for sustained engagement to ensure peace and stability in the region. Araghchi also appreciated Pakistan’s facilitation role in trying to bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, Islamabad remains under tight security as authorities prepare for a possible second round of talks between the US and Iran. Major roads, markets, and transport services in key areas have been shut for days, with over 10,000 security personnel deployed. Public life has been disrupted, with metro services suspended, goods transport halted, and several institutions shifting to remote operations.
Despite intense preparations, uncertainty continues over whether the talks will take place, as Iran has not yet confirmed participation. The first round of discussions earlier this month failed to yield a breakthrough, but Pakistan remains hopeful of reviving dialogue. Diplomatic engagements are ongoing as efforts continue to de-escalate tensions and move toward a negotiated resolution.
