As the ongoing NEET paper leak protests continue to gain momentum across the country, Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has become one of the main sites where students have gathered to voice their demands. Despite heavy rainfall and tough weather conditions, protesters have continued their demonstrations, often spending long hours outdoors with limited access to basic amenities.
With rain adding to the difficulties on the ground, several local restaurants have stepped in to offer free refreshments, shelter, and other essentials to those protesting.
Garnita’s Opens Its Doors
One such establishment is Garnita’s, located in Meherchand Market, Lodhi Colony, which shared a heartfelt message on social media inviting protesters to use its space and facilities. The restaurant’s post read that difficult moments call on people to show up for each other however they can, offering visitors a glass of water, a quiet seat, a phone-charging spot, refreshments, or simply a place to pause before heading back out.
The restaurant assured students that water and refreshments would be available to anyone who needed them, while urging protesters to prioritise their safety, ending its message with an appeal to stay safe, look out for one another, and know that its doors remained open.
Dumbo Deli Extends Support Too
Another Delhi eatery, Dumbo Deli, announced that its Meherchand Market (MCM) and New Friends Colony (NFC) outlets would stay open for protesters looking for a place to rest.
In its statement, the restaurant said a city is at its best when it looks after its people, thanking protesters for standing up for what they believe in. Acknowledging the physical and emotional toll of prolonged demonstrations, it offered a quiet corner, a glass of water, or simply a break from the crowd to anyone who needed it — promising free shelter and refreshments, along with a reminder to stay hydrated, stay safe, and look after one another.
A Show of Community Solidarity
As the protests continue amid persistent rain, these gestures from local businesses have been widely appreciated online, reflecting how members of the community are stepping up to support students during a difficult and physically demanding time.
