CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke began an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar after Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to hospital

July 18, 2026: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke returned to Jantar Mantar on Saturday and announced the start of an indefinite hunger strike following activist Sonam Wangchuk’s removal from the protest site. Addressing supporters, Dipke said he had launched the fast in protest against Wangchuk’s hospitalisation and also declared that a march would be organised on July 20 as part of the ongoing agitation.

Dipke alleged that Delhi Police used force during the operation to remove Wangchuk from the protest venue. He claimed he was assaulted and briefly detained after rushing back to Jantar Mantar upon learning of Wangchuk’s removal. Dipke further accused police of forcibly taking away Wangchuk despite his prolonged hunger strike. These allegations have not been independently verified, and Delhi Police had not immediately responded to his specific claims.

The renewed protest comes a day after Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a government hospital following medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court. Delhi Police said the decision was taken to protect Wangchuk’s health after doctors warned that his prolonged fast had become medically critical. While police maintained that the move was solely for medical reasons, CJP leaders and protesters have described the action as forceful and vowed to continue their agitation.
