A BJP functionary was killed and three family members were seriously injured after an alleged attack linked to an irrigation water dispute in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar area.
June 14, 2026: Dehradun Police have arrested four accused in connection with the murder of BJP functionary Vinod Kumar in Uttarakhand’s Vikasnagar area. The accused, identified as Razzaq, Salman, Javed and Shahbaz, were taken into custody after a violent attack in Bairagiwala village left Kumar dead and three of his family members seriously injured. The incident sparked protests, road blockades and heightened security deployment in the area.
According to police, the violence stemmed from a long-running dispute over irrigation water between Vinod Kumar and a local resident named Imtiaz. Officials said a group of more than 40 armed individuals allegedly stormed Kumar’s house on Saturday evening, attacking family members with hammers, sticks and other weapons. Kumar suffered severe head injuries and later died during treatment, while his brothers and sister-in-law sustained serious injuries.
Following the incident, angry villagers and members of Hindu organisations staged protests demanding swift action. Police registered a murder case against 12 named accused and several unidentified individuals under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condemned the killing and assured strict action against those responsible. Security forces, including PAC personnel, remain deployed in the village as police continue searching for the remaining accused.
