The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has strongly opposed actor Jacqueline Fernandez’s plea seeking to turn approver in the ₹200 crore money laundering case linked to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, telling a Delhi court that such a move would amount to a “miscarriage of justice.”

ED’s Strong Opposition in Court

Appearing before the Patiala House Court, the ED argued that Jacqueline Fernandez was not a minor participant but a “significant beneficiary of proceeds of crime” and allegedly involved in the money laundering network under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The agency also called her application to turn approver an “abuse of the process of law.”

Allegations Against Jacqueline Fernandez

According to the ED:

  • Fernandez maintained regular contact with Sukesh Chandrasekhar
  • She allegedly received luxury gifts funded through criminal proceeds
  • Gifts worth around ₹7 crore are under scrutiny
  • She continued communication even after learning about his alleged criminal background

The agency further claimed she failed to fully cooperate during questioning and gave “evasive and contradictory” statements under PMLA provisions.

ED’s Key Argument

In its submission, the ED stated:

“Granting her the position of an approver would be a miscarriage of justice and would undermine the gravity of the offence.”

It also said her conduct showed “conscious association” with the alleged scam and not that of an “unwitting victim.”

Court Proceedings

The court has asked Fernandez’s legal team to file a rejoinder and posted the matter for further hearing on May 12.

Her lawyers have stated that she is willing to cooperate fully with the investigation if allowed to become an approver.

Case Background

The case revolves around an alleged ₹200 crore extortion and money laundering racket involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Co-accused Pinky Irani is alleged to have facilitated delivery of luxury items to Fernandez.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court and Supreme Court had rejected petitions challenging proceedings in the case, allowing the ED investigation to continue.

What Happens Next?

The trial is currently at the stage of arguments on framing of charges. The court will next decide whether Fernandez can be granted approver status or whether she will continue as an accused in the case.
