Delhi witnessed a hot and humid day on Sunday as the maximum temperature settled at 38.9 degrees Celsius, marginally above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department said the city’s maximum temperature was 0.3 degrees Celsius higher than normal for this time of the year. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded on Sunday morning stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius, which was 0.8 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.
Rain And Thunderstorms Likely In Delhi
The IMD has forecast rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Delhi over the next few hours, offering much-needed relief from the warm and humid conditions experienced across the national capital.
According to the weather department, cloudy skies are expected to dominate the region, with intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorm activity likely during the day.
The forecast indicates that the maximum temperature may hover around 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain near 27 degrees Celsius.
Relief From Heat Expected
The predicted rainfall is likely to bring down temperatures and improve weather conditions across Delhi-NCR, where residents have been dealing with rising humidity levels in recent days.
Thunderstorm activity could also lead to gusty winds in several parts of the city, helping ease discomfort caused by the prevailing heat.
Weather experts have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and follow updates issued by the IMD regarding any weather-related alerts.
Weather Conditions Across NCR
Several areas in the National Capital Region, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, are also expected to experience cloudy weather, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.
The change in weather pattern is likely to provide temporary respite from above-normal temperatures and improve overall air quality conditions in parts of the region.
IMD Monitoring Monsoon Activity
The IMD continues to monitor monsoon activity across northern India, with weather systems expected to influence rainfall distribution over Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states in the coming days.
Residents are advised to keep track of official weather bulletins and plan outdoor activities accordingly, especially during periods of intense rainfall or thunderstorm activity.
As the monsoon gradually strengthens over northern India, Delhi is expected to witness more frequent rain spells, potentially bringing temperatures closer to seasonal norms.
