In a major urban management initiative, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has approved a proposal to shift all meat and fish shops operating within the city limits to designated locations on the outskirts of the city.

The decision was taken during a House meeting chaired by Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari. Municipal officials stated that a detailed roadmap for the relocation has been prepared, with the first phase of implementation expected to begin soon.

According to Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, five sites have been identified for the initial phase of the project. These locations are situated near the city’s outer boundaries and have been selected to ensure regulated commercial activity while reducing congestion in densely populated areas.

Under the approved plan, meat and fish vendors currently operating within Varanasi city will be relocated to designated zones in Ramnagar, Sujabad, Ganeshpur, Awaleshpur, and Shivpur.

The civic body said the move is aimed at improving sanitation, traffic management, and overall urban cleanliness. Officials believe that relocating such businesses to organized commercial clusters will help streamline municipal services and create a cleaner environment for residents and visitors.

The proposal is expected to impact hundreds of meat and fish shop owners across the city. However, authorities have not yet announced a final deadline for completing the relocation process.

Further details regarding infrastructure development at the new sites, rehabilitation measures, and support for affected traders are expected to be announced in the coming days.
