Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay has triggered a political controversy after posting a tribute to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) founder V. Prabhakaran on his death anniversary.

What Vijay Said in His Post

In a message shared on X, Vijay referred to the Mullivaikkal remembrance and expressed solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils, stating that their struggles and memories remain in his thoughts. His remarks were widely circulated and quickly drew public attention.

Why the Tribute Is Controversial

The LTTE, founded in 1976, was a militant organisation that fought for an independent Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka. Over time, it became associated with violent attacks, political assassinations, and suicide bombings. It is banned in India and several other countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

A key reason for the controversy is the LTTE’s alleged involvement in the 1991 assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, which remains one of the most sensitive political events in modern Indian history.
