The West Bengal Government has officially announced a new welfare program called the ‘Annapurna Yojana’. This initiative aims to give steady monthly financial help to women across the state. By doing this, the government hopes to improve the social and economic status of women. The Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare created this scheme, and it will officially start on June 1, 2026.
Under this new plan, eligible women will receive three thousand rupees every month. Therefore, it will provide a reliable safety net for many households. The government will send this money directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. However, your bank account must be linked to your official government identification card to receive the funds through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Who Can Apply for the Scheme?
The government has set clear rules for who can get this monthly cash help. First, women must be between 25 and 60 years old to qualify. Additionally, applicants must not be income tax payers. This ensures that the financial help goes to those who genuinely need it the most.
Furthermore, women who hold permanent government jobs cannot apply. If you receive a regular salary or a pension from the state or central government, you are not eligible. This rule also applies to people working in local bodies like panchayats, municipalities, statutory bodies, or schools that get government aid. Consequently, the scheme strictly targets women without stable government-backed incomes.
What Happens to Lakshmir Bhandar Beneficiaries?
If you are already getting money from the old Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme, you do not need to worry. The new order states that all current beneficiaries of Lakshmir Bhandar will automatically move to the Annapurna Yojana. As a result, you will transition to the higher monthly amount without any extra hassle.
Nevertheless, the government will remove some names during this transition. Officials will exclude individuals who are deceased, have moved away, or were deleted from government lists. They found these names during the recent SIR-2026 survey and voter slip distributions. On the other hand, people with pending cases before the SIR Tribunal or those who applied under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will keep getting their monthly money until the government makes a final legal decision on their status.
How New Applicants Can Apply Online
For women who want to apply for the first time, the process starts very soon. The government will launch a brand-new online portal for the Annapurna Yojana on June 1, 2026. You can submit your fresh application directly through this website from the comfort of your home.
After you submit your details, government officials will carefully check your application. In rural areas, Block Development Officers (BDOs) will handle the verification process. Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) will check applications in urban areas. For people living in the capital, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials will manage the background checks.
Finally, the District Magistrates and the KMC Commissioner will have the ultimate authority to approve the applications. Once they verify and clear everything, the officials will upload the final reports directly to the online portal, making the process transparent and smooth.
