Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from the Trinamool Congress and Parliament
June 10, 2026: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered another setback on Wednesday after Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from both the party and her seat in Parliament. Dev submitted her resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, becoming the second senior TMC leader to quit within a week. Her departure has intensified speculation about growing internal divisions within the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
A former Congress leader and ex-Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Silchar constituency, Sushmita Dev joined the TMC in 2021. She quickly rose through the party ranks, becoming one of its prominent national faces and serving as a key spokesperson. The party later nominated her to the Rajya Sabha, where she played an active role in representing TMC’s position on major political issues.
Dev’s resignation comes amid reports of increasing dissent within the party. The rebellion is reportedly being led by TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who has claimed that nearly 20 party MPs are unhappy with the current leadership and have expressed support for the NDA. The latest exit, following the resignation of veteran leader Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, has further fueled discussions about possible cracks within the TMC’s parliamentary ranks.
