Former England and Manchester United captain Sir David Beckham has reached a historic financial milestone, officially becoming Britain’s first-ever billionaire sportsman.

According to the newly released 2026 Sunday Times Rich List, the 51-year-old football icon and his fashion mogul wife, Lady Victoria Beckham, have effectively doubled their wealth over the past 12 months. The power couple’s combined fortune has rocketed to a staggering £1.185 billion ($1.58 billion), up from an estimated £500 million in 2025, effortlessly placing them ahead of King Charles III’s personal fortune of £680 million.
The Messi Effect and Miami Freedom Park Fuel the Surge
While Beckham continues to draw multi-million-pound revenues from historic brand partnerships with companies like Adidas and Hugo Boss, the primary engine behind his massive financial leap lies across the Atlantic. Beckham’s early investment in Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise Inter Miami CF has paid off exponentially.
Driven by Lionel Messi’s contract extension through 2028, the club’s valuation has surged to £1.07 billion ($1.45 billion). Furthermore, Beckham holds a highly lucrative stake in Miami Freedom Park a massive real estate development surrounding the club’s new 25,000 seater stadium that features extensive commercial spaces, offices, and entertainment complexes valued at an independent £400 million.
Victoria’s Fashion Empire Hits £100M as Sporting Elite Reshuffle
The family empire has also been substantially bolstered by Victoria Beckham’s luxury fashion and beauty brand, which recently crossed a historic milestone of over £100 million in annual revenue. Within the sporting world, the Beckhams now sit second only to the family of former Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, who tops the sports segment with a £2 billion fortune.
Elsewhere on the 2026 Rich List, sports boxing promoters Barry and Eddie Hearn also breached the billionaire bracket at £1.035 billion, while seven-time F1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton (£435 million) and back-to-back Masters golfing champion Rory McIlroy (£325 million) maintained their positions among the UK’s absolute sporting elite.
