The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially unveiled the schedule for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Playoffs, bringing the high-octane league stage to its final countdown.
In a significant update, the BCCI confirmed that the prestigious Final will now be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium, on May 31, 2026. This move marks a departure from the original plan to host the finale in Bengaluru, which was reassigned due to logistical requirements from local authorities that fell outside established BCCI protocols.
The Road to the Finale: Dharamshala and Chandigarh
The playoff action kicks off on May 26 with Qualifier 1 at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. This clash between the league’s top two teams will decide the first finalist of the season. The tournament then shifts to the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, which is set to become a hub for high-stakes cricket. New Chandigarh will host both the Eliminator on May 27 and Qualifier 2 on May 29, determining which team will fight for the trophy in the grand finale.
Special Case Venue Distribution
For the 2026 season, the BCCI has opted to conduct the playoffs across three distinct venues as a “special case” to manage operational and logistical considerations. While Bengaluru was the initial choice for the final, the shift to Ahmedabad ensures that the tournament concludes on the grandest possible stage. Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, emphasized that the decision was made to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament’s decisive phase while adhering to strict organizational guidelines.
