Gujarat Titans produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings by 89 runs in their IPL 2026 clash in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
A brilliant opening partnership between Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill laid the foundation for Gujarat’s imposing total of 229/4 before their bowlers ripped through the CSK batting lineup.
The defeat officially ended Chennai Super Kings’ playoff hopes this season.
Sudharsan, Gill Set Up Massive Total
After being invited to bat first, Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start as Sudharsan and Gill dominated the CSK bowlers from the outset.
The pair stitched together a superb 125-run opening stand, combining elegant strokeplay with aggressive intent.
Sudharsan continued his sensational IPL 2026 campaign with a classy 84 off 53 balls, striking boundaries regularly and anchoring the innings. Gill complemented him perfectly with a fluent 64 off just 37 deliveries.
England batter Jos Buttler then provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 57 off 27 balls. His explosive knock included five fours and four sixes as GT crossed the 220-run mark.
Siraj, Rashid, Rabada Destroy CSK Batting
Chasing a daunting target of 230, Chennai Super Kings never found momentum as Gujarat’s bowling attack struck regularly.
Mohammed Siraj gave GT the perfect start with the new ball and finished with impressive figures of 3/26.
Spin wizard Rashid Khan tightened the screws in the middle overs, picking up 3/18 with his trademark accuracy and variations.
Kagiso Rabada also claimed three wickets, ending with figures of 3/32 as CSK collapsed for just 140 in 13.4 overs.
The comprehensive victory strengthened Gujarat Titans’ position in the IPL 2026 standings, while CSK became one of the first teams to be eliminated from playoff contention this season.

The win further highlighted Gujarat Titans’ balance across departments, with their top-order batters continuing to fire consistently and the bowling attack delivering clinical performances.
Sai Sudharsan’s form remains one of the biggest positives for GT this season, while Gill’s aggressive captaincy and leadership have kept the franchise firmly among the title contenders.
For Chennai Super Kings, however, the defeat capped a disappointing campaign marked by inconsistent batting and bowling struggles throughout the season.
